A Few Words About Me

Hi, I'm Marisa! I'm a small business HR Consultant by day, and a wife and mommy by night.  My passion in life - other than my little family - is HR.  I love all things HR-related.  In fact, I proudly label myself an HR Nerd!  From compliance to audits to recruiting, training, development, people management, you name it, I'm in! 

   I've been practicing HR since 2005.  I have a bachelor's degree in Human Resources from the University of North Texas - GO MEAN GREEN - and two certifications: a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and an SHRM-Certified Professional (SHRM-CP).

     Throughout my career, I've learned that not all answers to HR issues are black and white.  While practicing HR requires an in-depth knowledge of various laws and regulations as well as their application on businesses, there is not always one right solution to a problem.  Solutions vary depending on the situation, the organization, the industry, the goals of the business and its employees. 

     I get the biggest kick from working with my clients in the grey areas of HR to find solutions that are right for them and their business needs while also maintaining compliance with the alphabet soup of local, state and federal laws.

     I started this blog to share my knowledge of employment laws, management techniques, business strategies and the general love I have for my profession.  I want to provide insights, tips, and updates about various employment laws and best practices to anyone reading.  Hope you like it!
